Potatoes Au Gratin |
Recipe Ingredients:
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon white pepper, finely ground
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
2 cups milk
2-3 white potatoes, sliced
1-2 sweet potatoes, sliced
1 cup grated Swiss or Gouda cheese, or any good quality cheddar, comte,
emmenthal, etc.
1/2 cup finely ground bread crumbs
1/4 teaspoon sweet Hungarian paprika, or Zip
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In batter bowl, combine butter, flour, sea
salt, pepper, and dry mustard. Microwave on high for 30 seconds to melt
the butter. Whisk in the milk. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Whisk
well. Microwave another 1-2 minutes, or until thickened. In meantime,
slice the potatoes thinly and arrange them with the sliced onions in a 3
quart glass or pottery baking dish. Sprinkle with a little extra salt
and some minced parsley. When the sauce is ready, pour it over the
potatoes, lifting them to get it to flow evenly. Place in microwave oven
for 8 minutes on high to partially cook the potatoes. Combine the
cheese, bread crumbs, and paprika and sprinkle over the top and pop into
the hot oven for another 20 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and
topping has melted and browned nicely.
