Ida's Mohn Cookies
Recipe Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup poppy seeds
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange rind

Put sugar, flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Add poppy seeds. Make a well in middle and drop in eggs, oil and orange rind. Stir from center outward until thick batter is formed.

Drop by teaspoon on ungreased cookie sheet, dip bottom of glass in sugar and press each cookie down.

Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 minutes, or until edges are browned.

Cooking Tips:   A slice of soft bread placed in the package of hardened brown sugar will soften it again in a couple of hours.
