Middle Eastern Lamb Meatballs
Recipe Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried mint
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 pound of ground kosher lamb
  • 1 cup fine bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup currants, covered in warm water and soaked for 30 minutes
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup black sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup white sesame seeds
  • mint jelly

sauté onion and garlic in olive oil in a skillet unitl softened.

Tranfered to a bowl and stir in mint, salt, allspice, and cinnamon.

Add lamb, bread crumbs, drained currants nad egg.

Mix well and form into 1/2-inch balls.

Roll halp of meatballs in black sesame seeds, and remaining in white sesame seeds.

Bake in preheated 450 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until browned.

Serve with mint jelly

Yields 32 (1/2 inch) meatballs.
