Recipe Ingredients:

2 green apples, cored
(peeling is optional)
and cut into small
chunks

1/4 cup granulated
sugar

2 Tbsp. chopped
walnuts or pecans

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 cup golden
raisins (optional)

Zest of one lemon

1/2 cup margarine
melted
-
Powered sugar
Chunky Maple Apple Sauce
(optional)
-
2 Cups
chunky
applesauce
-
1/2 cup
maple syrup
-
1/3 cup
golden
raisins
-
1 Tbsp
lemon juice
-
1/4 tsp
cinnamon
Serves 8-12
Preheat oven to 375
degrees F. Line a large
cookie sheet with greased
parchment paper for easy
cleanup. Combine
apples with granulated
sugar, nuts cinnamon,
raisins if using, and lemon
zest. Place one sheet
of phyllo on work surface
and brush with some of the
melted margarine. Top
with a second sheet and
brush again with margarine.
Place half of the
apple-nut mixture at the
long end of the sheets,
leaving about a 1-inch
border on the sides.
Carefully roll up, tucking
in the ends as you go,
ending with seam down.
Brush top with margarine and
place on a large cookie
sheet lined with greased
parchment paper for easy
cleanup. Repeat with
remaining two phyllo sheets.
Bake for 35 minutes, until
golden. Cut each strip
into 4-6 pieces.
To prepare optional
sauce, simmer ingredients
over medium heat for 2-3
minutes, stirring
frequently. Remove for
heat.
Just before serving,
sprinkle each slice with
sifted powered sugar and a
dollop of sauce, if suing.
Best served warm.
