Chocolate Applesauce Cake
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 pound applesauce (16 ounce can)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • nuts
  • chocolate chips

    Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and applesauce. Cream together.

    Sift flour, soda, cinnamon, and slat. Add to mixture. Add vanilla and cocoa. This will not be a smooth batter.

    Pour into large greased pan. Top with nuts and chocolate chips.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Test with toothpick in center-done if it comes out clean.
