This cookbook
was inspired by a past Hillel cookbook
entitled, "The Great Chefs Cookbook."
complied by Michael Schreiber and Annette
Silver. At the time I was new to the school
and to Denver and, as a newly wed, this
cookbook became my cooking and community
Bible. Not only did I have tired and true
recipes to us, but I learned a lot about the
people and community from it. Thirteen years
later I am still using that cookbook and
having fond memories of the people with whom
I have shared so much.
So too I hope
that when you use this new Hillel cookbook,
you too will enjoy the recipes and remember
fondly the Hillel families and good memories
that came along with it. Just as we need
tried and true recipes to eat, to give us
life, we also need tried and true education
to keep our traditions alive. As it says in
Pirkei Avot 21.... " If there is no flour
there is no Torah, and if there is no Torah,
there is no flour." Thanks to every who
shared in this endeavor.
